Chekhov Intensive Acting Workshop

The National Michael Chekhov Association is offering a 63-hour intense training with Wil Kilroy and Lisa Dalton, August 18 - 23, 2008, at CATS (Creative Arts Theatre and School) in Arlington, TX, located on Randol Mill between Fielder Road and Cooper Street.

Tuition is $650 for actors and $795 for teacher candidates, who place deposits by August 1st.  ($685/825 after August 1). The training sessions may be video taped, so you will need to be OK with being on-camera.  If it is published, participants will get a copy, when finalized.

Class begins Monday evening, 6 - 9PM, Aug. 18, in CATS theater with a free open overview lecture of Checkhov's methods. Then it runs 9am - 9pm Tuesday - Saturday. For actor participants, the cost amounts to $10 to $12 per hour.  It culminates in a scene showcase Saturday evening, with a reception. Teaching-certificate candidates have an extra half-day on Sunday, plus year-round teaching support.  Additionally, each evening, Tuesday through Friday, will offer a public seminar on various parts of the teachings, which can be taken as a series or individually for those who want to learn more about Michael Chekhov, but can't do the program now. These will include lectures on audition, scene analysis, directing/teaching, and video-screening. The Monday opening night will be an overview on Chekhov's history and context to today's actors' needs.

For those from out-of-DFW, motel costs for a week range from lower-end residence hotels to high-end luxury hotels and the closest are any hotels in the Six Flags entertainment area of Arlington, at IH30 and SH360.

The curriculum for this 63-hour intensive workshop is a new format, based on integrated units in three parts: exercise, improvisation and scene application.  We are very excited about this as it means as soon as you learn each tool, you will have a chance to try improvising with it and then immediately rehearsing your scene.  Your final scene showcase will allow you to present your scene twice!  Class participation is limited to 20 students, and classes are team-taught by master teachers AND the ages are for 18 and above, but 15-17 year olds may be able to attend with a teacher recommendation and an interview with Lisa Dalton.
Each day of training has a theme: Day 1. The Foundation,

Day 2. Unity of Imagination and Body - Psycho-Physical Education,

Day 3. Sensational Feelings - A healthy path to Emotions,

Day 4. Transformational Characterization,

Day 5. Unifying with Psychological Gesture,

Day 6. Synthesis with our Audience,

Day 7. Radiating Chekhov to the World (teaching-certificate candidates only)

Please let us know as soon as possible if you are interested in coming to this fabulous training opportunity and we will inform you of more details. Check out the Chekhov website at Www.chekhov.net.  You can sign up at the online registration section of that site. Please indicate if a student is under 18, so that we can get the necessary recommendations.

Come join us for this powerful training in a Michael Chekhov's powerful acting methods.
